Wineries are abundant in Western New York, where one normally celebrates the
Finger Lakes Wine Country.
Wineries are normally categorized by their
American Viticultural Area (AVA), the lake upon which they depend, or a designation and/or membership in one of the regions official Wine Trails.
There are several hundred vineyards and wineries within a number of AVAs across Western New York and Canada that are reasonably accessible from the Buffalo Region. In our regeion we have access to wineries in the
Lake Erie AVA along Lake Erie west of Buffalo, and some great Ice Wine country in Ontario, Canada north and west of Niagara Falls along Lake Ontario. The
Niagara Escarpment AVA was added in 2005 and recognized wineries in the
Niagara Wine Trail.
In addition we are within two hours of the
Finger Lakes AVA. See
RoWiki Wineries Page for information and resources.1.
